In 2007 Dr. Shiro HARA proposed the concept of Minimal Fab in order to reduce the investment cost for semiconductor production.
For this purposes the Fab Systems Research Consortium was established in April 2010 at Government of Japan support and under auspices of National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). Since 2017 the Consortium has been changed into the Minimal Fab Promoting Organization and includes more than 150 leading Japanese companies which are develop and produce equipment and consumables, as well as Universities, R&D Centers, System Integrators and others.
